Bernie Hickman, managing director for protection at Legal & General, said: “It is important for people to have adequate cover against critical illness, but sales have been falling for the past few years.
“Split sums assured makes it easier for advisers to sell critical illness cover on top of life insurance.
“Clients often can’t afford as much critical illness cover as they can life insurance, which may mean they don’t take out any at all.
“Our move will help advisers sell more and improve people’s financial security by addressing the protection gap.”
